An exciting, unique STEM-based experience
Pupils will:
- discover how aircraft fly
- learn the basics of navigation and flight planning
- experience flight simulators inspired by real pilot training
- learn from experienced CAA-licensed pilots
Open to all pupils regardless of background or prior aviation knowledge.

8 topics that take flight
Four levels, 36 lessons
A progressive, curriculum-linked enrichment programme introducing primary pupils to aviation through a structured four-level curriculum (36 lessons in total, 9 lessons per level).
Level 1
A broad introduction to aviation.
Level 2
Principles of Flight, Meteorology and Aircraft General Knowledge.
Level 3
Air Law, Navigation and Operational Procedures.
Level 4
Flight Planning, Human Performance and Communications.
Each level builds on the last. 9 lessons per level.
Theory meets flight simulators
Each session splits time equally between classroom theory and hands-on practice on flight simulators (Microsoft Flight Simulator with Thrustmaster controllers). Pupils work in pairs, swapping between pilot and co-pilot roles so everyone gets equal flying time.
Curriculum design & delivery: adapted from the PPL (Private Pilot’s Licence) syllabus, simplified for primary-age pupils. Lessons combine theory input, hands-on classroom activities, simulator practice and a plenary review, differentiated by ability.

Learning by making & flying
Pupils build, test and fly — from wooden model aircraft to flight simulators.

Assemblies, talks & simulator lessons
From whole-school assemblies with pilots to hands-on lessons at the flight simulators.

Science, technology, engineering & maths
Science
Forces, fluid dynamics, weather, human biology.
Technology
Avionics, navigation aids, radio systems.
Engineering
Aircraft structures, engines, aerofoil design, mass and balance.
Mathematics
Formulae, chart reading, dead reckoning, performance calculations.

Career pathways
Commercial and private aviation, air traffic control, aerospace engineering, meteorology, drone and UAV technology, and more.
Transferable skills: problem-solving, teamwork, communication, confidence.

Important: This is an educational enrichment programme, not flight training, and the club is not an Approved Training Organisation under the UK CAA.
